Sogang Institute for Whole Person Education, began as the General Education Department in 1977 and underwent several transformations, becoming the General Education Department in 1988, the College of Liberal Arts in 2004, the Basic Education Institute in 2011, and its current department in 2015. The institute not only oversees the liberal arts curriculum but also operates various centers and develops diverse programs for teaching and learning.
Aligned with Sogang University's educational philosophy, the institute strives to cultivate individuals who embody a life of service for others, take on leadership roles in society, and possess both academic excellence and creativity. Our goal is to lead the way in holistic education, producing exemplary individuals who will contribute to future society as models of whole-person education.

Sogang Center for Writing
The Sogang Center for Writing is an institution established to help improve the writing skills of Sogang University students. It aims to enhance writing abilities by offering various writing training programs, integrating them into liberal arts courses, and developing creative writing programs.
Writing is not only a core act of self-exploration but also a crucial skill for communicating with others and interpreting the world in society. Sogang University has long integrated the book review system into its Korean language courses, encouraging students to read many literary works and express their opinions in writing. The Sogang Center for Writing takes this book review system a step further to systematically educate Sogang University students' writing skills.

Character Development Center
The Character Development Center was established to facilitate the growth of individuals who possess intellectual, moral, and spiritual qualities for the benefit of neighbors and communities, and to cultivate holistic individuals. It aims to implement the core values of the Universal Apostolic Preference (UAP) and pursue holistic education that can contribute to sustainable development goals (SDGs).
The Character Development Center operates curricular and extracurricular programs to practice and foster the core values of spirituality, social justice, reconciliation, and solidarity, which are central to the UAP. Through experiential reflective learning based on the Jesuit educational philosophy of ‘Experience-Reflection-Action,’ it aims to realize the social values of Think-Make-Innovation and contribute to the development of neighbors and communities.
