Since its founding in 1960, Sogang University has quickly established itself as one of Korea’s leading and most prestigious private universities, implementing the educational ideology of the Society of Jesus, represented by the “5 C’s”: right Conscience, utmost Competence, Compassion for worldly issues, Commitment to living for others and with the world, and Coherence for the betterment of the human community.

Based on its DNA of challenge and innovation, Sogang has always led the paradigm of higher education in Korea, balancing academic excellence with social responsibility. Even in an era of rapid change, Sogang has continued to push the limits, explore new possibilities, and open new horizons for education and research.

In the four years since I took office as Sogang’s 16th president, I have been proud to accomplish outstanding feats, such as setting “VISION 2030” and actively pursuing the seven key goals laid out in these initiatives, and this is all based on sincere communication and cooperation with all of Sogang’s valuable members.

In February 2025, as the university’s 17th president, I am once again eager to take Sogang to a higher level, rising beyond “All the Excellence” and fostering a greater leap toward “Beyond Excellence.” Sogang will continue to nurture future talents through more creative innovations, all while upholding its own values and core philosophy and while aiming to become a top university to lead education and research in the digital age. I am very pleased to remain on this proud journey of challenge and innovation with all of you.
